Our Engagement

It was Sunday, April 15, 2007. We started off early in the morning to go on what I thought would be just a fun day time date. We grabbed bagels on the way (and apparently one of Lan’s friends followed us around all day taking pictures of our adventures…I had no idea) After picking up bagels, we headed to the train station and took the Metro into LA. (We had done this once before and It is one of our favorite things to do) So all day we ate our way through Olvera street (yum taquitos), China town (yum… weird good things that I can’t identify), and little Tokyo (I was daring and tried raw sushi). We had so much fun and there are pictures to document it too!
Then we went back to Biola and got dressed up for dinner. Lan surprised me with reservations to the Orange County Mining Company. We had a delicious dinner overlooking the city. (One funny thing is that I had actually mentioned this restaurant weeks after he had made the reservations saying that I would like to go there some time). We also had cheese cake with fresh strawberries. I was so full by the end of the night, I thought I was going to burst …. but yum. From there we went back to Biola, and I totally thought that the evening was over. He even said good bye to me and said that he was going home to go get to bed early (very plausible since he hadn’t been sleeping well… I wonder why). I walked into my apartment and my roommate, Lindsay, and her boyfriend, Andy, were watching a movie. I guess the plan was that I would just sit down and watch it with them… but I like to be difficult. So, they had to do a little bit of improvising. I changed into some more comfortable cloths (thinking my evening was over) and they tried to stall and kept pausing the movie to go to the bathroom. (first one then the other. Then I made them a Japanese energy drink… all the while they are thinking…. just sit down and watch the movie so you can get proposed to!
So eventually I sat down and started watching it. They were watching 50 First Dates which was actually the movie Lan and I watched on our second date. I mentioned that to them and I think they must have had huge smiles in their faces. So in the movie, Lucy (played by Drew Barrymore) puts in a video and Adam Sandler comes up and starts talking and explaining to her what’s happening in her life, but instead of Adam Sandler, I see LAN!!!! Let’s just say that I was in total shock. I thought that Lindsay and Andy had put in the wrong movie or something (Lan had made me a video slideshow for Valentine’s Day a few years back with the theme song from 50 First Dates)… but no…. this was a different movie entirely.
So he basically said that I was the love of his life, and I didn’t know it yet but I was going to be proposed to that night. Then there was a knock at the door and Lan came in as Lindsay and Andy left. I was in total shock! He couldn’t have surprised me more. Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes… and it is all on tape.

Pictures from our Engagement Day, thanks Scott
